One of a pair of panels commissioned to hang as wall art, the beauty of this koi carp comes alive with the selection of life-like stones. Subtle shading brings perspective and movement, with the presence of the worm adding a playful sense of humour.

Thomas sourced a unique block of red and orange jasper from Italy for the body of the koi. With its ideal texture and limited quantity, it makes it a truly bespoke commission. It is set against pure black Belgian marble from a quarry near Brussels, with only the finest vein-free stone being chosen.

Winner of the silver prize in the Lapidary section of 2010 Craftsmanship and Design Awards run by the Goldsmiths’ Craft and Design Council.
