Mouse Eating Blackberries

18.9 x 13.8 cm

A rare case of a design being influenced by the stone. In this case the stone appeared to resemble that of a mouse and so the image was born.  The black Belgian marble accentuates the colour of the mouse, setting the nocturnal creature against the black of night.

The texture of the Tuscan grey gabbro used here creates a sense of the mouse’s fur, helping to bring life and depth to the final look.

To avoid the need for joins in the tail, a single piece of dendrite was chosen. A brittle and demanding stone to work with, it nevertheless produces an incredible result. Also to note is the conch shell used to represent the nose and ear.
