Kingfisher

32.5 x 27.5 cm

Inspired by an 18th century Florentine pietra dura panel, it took two months for Thomas to hand-saw all the pieces and inlay them precisely. Over 500 pieces of stones were used. A distressed-looking antique frame perfectly finishes off the image.

A particular noteworthy feature in this panel is the flower head where Thomas has used rosso di Pirinei stone. Depth was created by the choice of shading. Finest lapis lazuli mined from Mardan-Y-Char, Northern Afghanistan, brings a dramatic jolt of colour to the kingfisher.
